● Read, write, communicate effectively ● Think analytically, logically and creatively ● Know and apply core concepts of math; social, physical, and life sciences; civics and history; arts, health and fitness ● Understand the importance of work and how performance, effort, and decisions directly affect future career and educational opportunities

                                                         Profile:

►SLC "A" students have access to AP, Honors, Tech Prep and crossover electives.

►SLC "A" students learn that the history of civilization and culture are critical to understanding

   the modern world and the roots of the American experience.

►SLC "A" students learn that the future of the United States requires citizens who are informed,

     involved, schooled in integrity, and physically fit.

►SLC "A" students are guided to create, perform and respond to the arts: whether color or line,

   act or scene, myth or metaphor, stanza, dance or chorale

►SLC "A" students savor the process of developing an idea, performing a work of reflecting on

   how our forebears solved a problem, discovering the precision of science and mathematics,

   or speaking, reading and thinking in a second language.

►SLC "A" students enjoy participating in discussions, and in their classes they often debate the

   central issues of history, politics, art, and current affairs.

►SLC "A" students are taught to rely upon evidence as they outline the argument of an essay,

   weigh the reliability of sources, create an artistic interpretation, or design a presentation.

►Internships in social, cultural, governmental, artistic, community and scientific fields

   will be an opportunity in this program.

  SLC "A" students have access to all AP courses, Honors classes, clubs and activities that are offered within the school. They have priority enrollment in SLC "A" electives, but may also crossover to take electives offered in other SLC’s (electives are listed above). Student schedules in SLC "A" will be as varied as they currently are in the comprehensive high school.

These SLC formats are in the developmental stages. After staff are assigned to SLCs in May/June 2006, they will work to put their unique stamp on the emphases and profile.  Beginning early next fall, prospective students and parents will have a number of opportunities to meet with SLC team members, hear their presentations, and offer advice or make suggestions on ways to further strengthen the programs.  Events like these will prepare students for registration activities that will be held later next year.

     the past influences the present, and they develop leadership skills to actively shape the future

   speaking in order to inform, persuade and to lead

►SLC “B” promotes health and wellness. Its co-curricular program creates opportunities for students

   to design activities for life long fitness  

►SLC “B” students explore the power of images, and they use graphic, digital, and media skills to 

   communicate important ideas to specific audiences

►SLC “B” students understand that success in school, business and life depends upon responsibility,

   trustworthiness, ethical behavior, goal setting, and caring for self and others

►SLC “B”’s inquiry based curriculum is often integrated, and as students explore content area

   connections, they develop exciting new interests, new passions and new goals

►Internships in community and service learning, marketing, advertising, accounting, media,

   publication, health care, education, human services, business and local government will be a

   special feature of this program.

   the functions of a cell, in the ecology of forests, in the physics of an atom, or at the coastlines

   of Puget Sound

►SLC “C” students learn that balance and design are keys to excellence—whether it’s found in

   architecture,  in the U.S. Constitution, in an equation, in an essay, in literature, in the 

   layout of a commercial kitchen or garden, in an artistic perspective, or in a student

   presentation

►SLC “C” students learn to read complex material for important information, and they are

   taught to write essays and technical reports with clarity and precision

►SLC “C” students learn to use science, technology and data to make observations, to test

   hypotheses,  and to find practical solutions to real problems—from resource management, to

   principles of design, to contemporary political and social issues

►SLC “C” students learn that persistence, application, honesty, integrity and initiative lead to

   the highest levels of success and achievement

►SLC “C” students discover the interrelationship within systems, whether designing one, or

   observing one--such as an ecosystem, a food chain, a political platform, a social policy, an
